A Love Letter to Every Woman Who Has Forgotten How Beautiful Life Can Be

By Coach Heather Owens RN, BSN, MBA| Founder of LUMINAFIT

Girl, somewhere along the way, we became so good at surviving our lives that we forgot we were supposed to enjoy them.

I've been thinking about something lately, and it's really been on my heart.

When did we stop dreaming?

When did we stop getting excited about life? When did we stop looking forward to adventures, making plans, trying new things, and simply enjoying the beautiful gift of being alive?

When did our lives become one long list of things we have to get done?

We wake up. We go to work. We take care of everybody. We manage our homes, our families, our responsibilities. We check things off our lists, go to bed exhausted, and get up the next morning to do it all over again.

And somewhere in the middle of all that living, we forget to actually LIVE.

I don't want that for you.

And I don't want that for myself, either.

The Woman Who Reminded Me Why This Matters

Yesterday, a woman walked into LUMINAFIT, my little boutique fitness studio in downtown Winder, Georgia.

She said something that I haven't been able to stop thinking about.

She told me she felt like she was "allergic to life."

She didn't even know where to begin.

Oh, girls. That touched my heart.

Because I started thinking about how many women must feel that way.

Maybe you're exhausted. Maybe you've been taking care of everyone else for so long that you've completely forgotten what makes YOU happy.

Maybe you've been through a difficult season.

Maybe life has become so repetitive that you've stopped looking forward to anything.

Or maybe someone asks you what you enjoy doing, what you want out of life, or what your dreams are, and you honestly don't even know how to answer anymore.

And I wish I could reach through this screen, give you the biggest hug, and tell you something.

Baby girl, your story isn't over. Not even close.

You don't have to figure everything out today.

You don't have to know what the next ten years will look like.

You just have to begin.

And sometimes beginning looks like something as simple as walking through the doors of a place you've never been before.

Maybe it's a Pilates class.

Maybe it's having coffee with a girlfriend.

Maybe it's going for a walk outside and feeling the sunshine on your face.

Maybe it's putting on your favorite song and dancing around your kitchen.

It doesn't have to be something extraordinary.

Sometimes the most extraordinary thing we can do is remember how to enjoy the ordinary moments of our lives.

If Your Life Were a Book, Would You Love the Story You're Writing?

Recently, I started thinking about my life as though it were a book.

What if I were the author?

What if I could decide how I wanted the next chapters to go?

What kind of woman would I want to become?

What kind of memories would I want to make?

Who would I want beside me?

What would I want to accomplish?

And more importantly, how would I want to feel while I was living it?

Because I've realized something.

I don't just want a successful life.

I want a beautiful life.

I want to laugh. I want to dance. I want to travel. I want wonderful friendships, incredible experiences, peaceful mornings, and a whole lot of love.

I want to keep learning and growing.

I want to build businesses that help people.

I want to make a difference in the world.

I want to see my daughters happy and thriving. I want to hold my grandbabies, watch them grow up, and make memories they'll carry with them forever.

I want adventures with my husband.

I want to stay healthy, strong, feminine, confident, and full of energy.

And I want to be grateful for every single chapter along the way.

Because I don't want to spend my entire life working toward some beautiful future and forget to appreciate the beautiful life that's already happening around me.

The People Who Help Us Write Our Stories

And this brings me to something that's especially close to my heart.

Gratitude.

When I look at my life, I realize how incredibly blessed I am.

Not because everything has been easy. It certainly hasn't.

There have been obstacles, difficult decisions, unexpected challenges, and times when I've had to figure things out as I went along.

But I've had some truly wonderful people in my life.

People who have taught me.

People who have encouraged me.

People who have believed in me.

People who have loved me through different seasons and helped me become the woman I am today.

And I never want to take that for granted.

My husband, Jason, is such an important part of my story.

I'm so grateful for the love, support, and lessons that have come from sharing our lives together.

When I think about everything I want to accomplish, I also think about how important it is to have people beside you who make the journey sweeter.

And my daughters—Savannah, Sierra, and Skyler—have brought so much love, meaning, and purpose into my life.

Now I get to experience the incredible joy of being a grandmother, too.

And girls, there is just something about holding those precious little babies that reminds you what really matters.

Not the emails.

Not the deadlines.

Not the never-ending to-do list.

The people.

The love.

The moments.

The memories.

I've also learned so much from the friends, mentors, colleagues, and wonderful people I've met throughout my life.

Some have taught me about business and leadership.

Some have taught me about kindness, generosity, and faith.

Some have encouraged me when I needed encouragement.

And some have simply shown me what it looks like to live a beautiful life.

I hope I never stop learning from the people around me.

And I hope I never become so busy chasing my own dreams that I forget to thank the people who have helped me along the way.

Because a beautiful life isn't something we create entirely alone. It's something we build with the people we love.

Why I Started LUMINAFIT

I've been a fitness instructor since I was 18 years old.

I've spent much of my professional life in nursing, healthcare, and clinical research. I love learning, solving problems, and helping people become healthier.

But I've also always loved movement, music, and the incredible feeling of being strong and alive.

And I began dreaming of creating a place where women could experience all of those things together.

Not just another gym.

Not just another workout.

A place where women could walk through the doors and immediately feel special.

Where we would know your name.

Where you could come by yourself and leave with a friend.

Where you could laugh, dance, stretch, strengthen your body, and remember how wonderful it feels to take care of yourself.

Where you could be reminded that you are worthy of love and care exactly as you are.

That's why I created LUMINAFIT.

Because I believe that movement is about so much more than exercise.

It's about confidence.

It's about connection.

It's about celebrating your body instead of constantly criticizing it.

It's about giving yourself permission to do something simply because it makes you happy.

And it's about creating a community where women remind one another that life is something worth celebrating.

I want every woman who walks through our doors to feel like the queen she is.

Whether she's 18 or 80.

Whether she's been exercising her entire life or has never taken a fitness class before.

Whether she's feeling confident or barely holding things together.

I want her to know she belongs.

And I want her to leave feeling just a little more in love with being alive.

My Dreams Are Still Growing

And here's the beautiful thing.

I'm still dreaming, too!

I have big dreams for LUMINAFIT and for the women we can reach through our studios, virtual classes, and programs.

Through LuminaCorporate, I want to take what I've learned in healthcare, business, and wellness into workplaces, helping people feel healthier, happier, more energized, and more supported.

Through LuminaCommunity, I want to bring movement, encouragement, preventive health education, and opportunities for connection to people who need them.

I want to write books.

I want to share stories.

I want to speak to women across the country and remind them how much they matter.

I want to build something that creates opportunities for my family and makes a lasting impact in other people's lives.

And I'm excited about all of it.

But I've also realized that I don't want to wait until all those dreams come true to enjoy my life.

I want to enjoy the process.

I want to appreciate the little studio we have today while dreaming about the places we might reach tomorrow.

I want to celebrate every woman who walks through our doors.

Every friendship that begins.

Every milestone.

Every moment when someone smiles and says, "I really needed this today."

Because those moments aren't just steppingstones to some future success.

Those moments ARE the beautiful life I'm building.

You Are Allowed to Dream Again

So now I want to ask you something.

When was the last time you dreamed about your own life?

Not your children's lives.

Not your husband's career.

Not your family's schedule.

Yours.

When was the last time you thought about something you wanted to do just because it would make you happy?

Maybe you've always wanted to learn to dance.

Maybe you want to travel somewhere beautiful.

Maybe you've thought about going back to school or starting your own business.

Maybe you want to become stronger, healthier, and more confident.

Maybe you want to make new friends.

Maybe you want to fall in love again.

Or maybe you just want to wake up in the morning and feel excited about being alive.

Whatever it is, I hope you'll start dreaming about it again.

And please don't tell yourself you're too old, too busy, too far behind, or too late.

You're not.

You are allowed to begin a new chapter at any age.

You are allowed to change your mind.

You are allowed to want something different.

You are allowed to grow into a new version of yourself.

And you are allowed to be happy while you're still figuring everything out.

Don't Forget to Enjoy the Life You Already Have

As much as I believe in setting goals and pursuing dreams, I also believe we need to appreciate what's right in front of us.

Because life is happening today.

It's happening in the kitchen while you're making dinner.

It's happening in the car while you're singing your favorite song.

It's happening when your grandbaby reaches for you.

When your husband makes you laugh.

When a friend calls just to check on you.

When you step outside and feel the warmth of the sunshine.

When you finish a workout and realize how good it feels to move your body.

When somebody gives you a hug and you know they genuinely care about you.

Those are the moments that make up a life.

And I don't want us to miss them.

I want us to slow down long enough to notice how much beauty is already around us.

To celebrate the little things.

To say thank you more often.

To tell people we love them.

To make plans we're excited about.

To take care of our bodies.

To laugh until our cheeks hurt.

And to stop treating happiness like something we have to earn after we've finished everything else.

Three Things I Hope You'll Do Today

Before you close this blog, I want you to think about three little things.

1. Dream about something again.

It can be big or small. Just give yourself permission to want something wonderful for your life.

2. Do one thing that makes you happy.

Go for a walk. Call a girlfriend. Take a fitness class. Make plans for something fun. Put on some music and dance.

Remember that joy doesn't always have to be complicated.

3. Thank somebody who has made your life more beautiful.

Maybe it's your husband, your mama, your best friend, a teacher, a mentor, or someone who believed in you when you weren't quite sure you believed in yourself.

Tell them.

Don't assume they already know.

Because the people who love us are some of life's greatest gifts.

The Story I Hope We All Get to Write

One day, when I'm much older, I hope I can sit somewhere beautiful, surrounded by people I love, and look back on my life with the biggest smile.

I hope I've accomplished wonderful things.

I hope I've helped thousands of women.

I hope I've built businesses that continue making a difference.

But more than anything, I hope I can say that I loved people well.

That I appreciated the people who loved me.

That I was present for my family.

That I made beautiful memories.

That I was generous, grateful, kind, and full of life.

And that I never stopped dreaming.

I want to look back and think:

What a beautiful life.

What an extraordinary adventure.

And how grateful I am for the people who helped me along the way.

And that's exactly what I want for you.

I don't want you to get to the end of your story and realize you spent your whole life preparing to be happy someday.

I want you to be happy along the way.

Even when life is imperfect.

Even when things don't go as planned.

Even when you're still working toward your dreams.

Because you deserve more than a life you simply get through.

You deserve a life you absolutely love.

So, baby girl, dream again.

Find something that makes your heart happy.

Love your people.

Be grateful for the little things.

Take wonderful care of yourself.

And remember that the next chapter of your life can be something truly beautiful.

You are the author. The pen is in your hand. And your story is still being written.

With so much love,
