The Courage to Step Off the Merry-Go-Round
Jul 06, 2026Sometimes the bravest thing you'll ever do isn't holding on tighter. It's having the courage to step off the ride that's no longer taking you where you want to go.
Beautiful soul,
Have you ever felt like you're doing all the right things...
You're busy.
You're checking the boxes.
You're taking care of everyone else.
You're working hard.
You're trying your best.
Yet somehow, you end up right back where you started.
That's what a merry-go-round does.
It keeps you moving...
But it doesn't move you forward.
As I reflected on this past year, I realized something that changed the way I see personal growth.
For years, I wasn't stuck because I wasn't trying hard enough.
I was stuck because I was staying on rides that were only taking me in circles.
The ride of people-pleasing.
The ride of seeking approval.
The ride of perfectionism.
The ride of overthinking.
The ride of believing I had to earn my worth.
This year, I made one courageous decision after another.
I started stepping off.
You Can't Grow While Going in Circles
As women, we're often praised for being busy.
For juggling everything.
For sacrificing ourselves.
For holding everything together.
But being busy doesn't always mean we're growing.
Sometimes we're simply repeating the same patterns with different faces.
The same unhealthy relationships.
The same self-doubt.
The same excuses.
The same fears.
The same stories we've been telling ourselves for years.
Motion isn't always progress.
Sometimes it's just another ride around the same circle.
The Small Steps That Changed Everything
Stepping off the merry-go-round didn't happen all at once.
It happened one decision at a time.
I started waking up at 5:00 every morning—not because someone told me I should, but because I wanted to begin my day with intention.
Prayer.
Gratitude.
Journaling.
Movement.
Those mornings weren't just changing my schedule.
They were changing me.
I've worked out most of my life, but this year movement became something much deeper.
It became a daily reminder that I was worth caring for.
Not because I needed to earn my value.
Because I already had it.
I Stopped Waiting for Permission
One of the biggest rides I stepped off was the need for everyone else's approval.
For years, I replayed conversations.
Second-guessed my decisions.
Wondered what people thought.
Tried to make everyone understand my heart.
This year, I started asking a different question.
"Am I proud of the woman I'm becoming?"
That one question brought more peace than years of trying to win approval ever did.
I also became more comfortable showing up exactly as I am.
Sometimes with makeup.
Sometimes without.
Sometimes recording a video from a construction site while LuminaFit was still being built.
Because I finally understood something.
People don't connect with perfection.
They connect with authenticity.
My Relationships Changed Because I Changed
One of the greatest surprises this year was watching my relationships become healthier.
Not because everyone around me suddenly changed.
Because I did.
I listened more.
I became less defensive.
I stopped needing to be right.
I stopped trying to convince people of my worth.
The more secure I became within myself, the more present I became with the people I love.
Healthy relationships don't ask us to prove our value.
They invite us to grow together.
And sometimes, stepping off the merry-go-round means having the courage to leave behind relationship patterns that no longer bring peace, joy, or mutual respect.
Dreams Require Forward Motion
This year I watched LuminaFit transform from a dream into reality.
Walls went up.
Floors were finished.
Plans became a place.
But none of that happened because I waited until I felt completely ready.
It happened because I kept taking one step after another.
Dreams don't come true because we stay comfortable.
They come true because we're willing to leave the familiar behind.
Five Ways to Step Off the Merry-Go-Round
1. Notice the circles you've been running.
What pattern keeps showing up in your life?
People-pleasing?
Negative self-talk?
Waiting for the "perfect" time?
Awareness is where change begins.
2. Keep one promise to yourself every day.
Confidence isn't built overnight.
It's built every time you prove to yourself that your word matters.
3. Ask yourself a better question.
Instead of asking,
"What will everyone else think?"
Ask,
"Will this move me toward the woman I want to become?"
4. Choose relationships that encourage growth.
The people closest to you should challenge you, encourage you, and celebrate your growth—not keep you stuck in old versions of yourself.
5. Celebrate progress.
You don't have to become a completely different woman this year.
You simply have to become a little more of who God created you to be.
Journal Prompts
Take a few quiet moments this week to reflect.
-
What merry-go-round have I been riding for too long?
-
What fear keeps me from stepping off?
-
What relationship, habit, or belief no longer serves the woman I'm becoming?
-
What is one courageous step I can take this week?
-
If I trusted God more than I feared change, what would I do differently?
A Final Thought
Beautiful soul...
The merry-go-round feels safe because it's familiar.
But familiar isn't always where we're called to stay.
There comes a moment in every woman's life when she realizes she has two choices.
She can keep going in circles...
Or she can step off and begin walking toward the life she was created to live.
Yes, stepping off takes courage.
It means leaving behind old habits.
Old fears.
Old relationships.
Old stories.
But every beautiful life begins with one courageous decision.
Not to hold on tighter...
But to let go of what keeps you spinning.
Today, I hope you'll choose courage.
I hope you'll choose growth.
Most of all, I hope you'll choose yourself.
Because the woman you're becoming isn't waiting for you at the end of another ride around the same circle.
She's waiting for you the moment you decide to step off.
